Triangles: Leo Virgo Pisces

Unfoldment of human consciousness, culmination of three triangles of crisis

Multiple meanings: the culmination of three triangles of crisis (the Aries-Cancer-Capricorn series) and a triangle in consciousness involved in the process of Earth becoming a sacred planet¹ with the unfoldment of human consciousness in three main aspects. These are three of four signs not included in the major series of triangles expressing the energies of the Great Bear, Sirius and the Pleiades (see Aries-Libra-Sun and related triangles), and also a signifier of the First Initiation.

The other sign is Aquarius. According to Bailey they are:

concerned with the expression of consciousness on the outer external planes of expression or with the fusion of soul and form in order to demonstrate fully a state of awareness. (EA 468)

Purpose 1: Earth becoming a sacred planet

There is one triad of cosmic energy that is of supreme importance upon our planet … the united influence of its three constellations … will eventually bring about the initiation of the Planetary Logos […] At present our Earth is not … a sacred planet. … when these three energies have produced adequate effect and the needed planetary changes have been produced, the term sacred will be … appropriate. (EA 469)

She continues: this statement of course means little to any student at this time but fortunately, the matter—as is often the case in Esoteric Astrology—is actually not quite so obscure, and she offers two cryptic statements to aid our comprehension.

Briefly, these stress that in order to comprehend the process of becoming a sacred planet, we (as humanity) need to be at a parallel stage ourselves, which involves understanding the aspect of will and the effect that the energy of will has in the process of the expansion of awareness beyond the individual soul after the third initiation. However, premature wielding of the will by humanity would be destructive, so the process of the Earth becoming a sacred planet will require eons of further development.

Purpose 2: three aspects of human consciousness

This triangle governs the expression of three aspects of human consciousness, lying behind the very rapid unfoldment of the three types of consciousness to be found in varying degrees in humanity today (EA 290, 471-2). These three types are influenced by this triangle as follows:

Leo: Personality - Lower unity

Self-consciousness—emergence out of the mass (Cancer) of the individual

First stirrings of soul—the individual consciousness, synthesising experience in the three worlds to create a unity.

[Leo] aids in the manifestation of individual will, individual love, and individual intelligence; it fosters the … egoistic principle; … the “I am” attitude which is so necessary … before the individual can merge … as a conscious self-respecting unit in the Whole

Virgo: Duality

Latent Christ principle²—recognition of soul, emergence out of the group of world individuals of the aspirant for the first initiation.

Behind the Leo influence …is the force of Virgo … which:

shatters eventually the synthesis and the lower unity already produced by Leo, giving rise to a dual stimulation: 1. the soul within the form 2. the soul within each atom in the form,

…because the genius and uniqueness of Virgo is that it produces the form as well as stimulates the life within that form and, therefore, nourishes and energises two lives simultaneously. It is a powerful dual energy, a potent expression of the anima mundi or the soul of the world. (EA 470)

This is why it is connected with the dualism of the human spirit (spirit-matter). The struggle between this pair of opposites began when the old single sign of Leo-Virgo split into two, and this struggle is reaching its climax today. (from EA 470-71).

• The triplicity of the form is represented by the triple nature of the Virgo symbol.
• The stimulation of the form to become a suitable vehicle for the awakening soul.

Pisces: Unity

The group conscious soul. The awareness, universal in nature, of the initiate emerging from the group of world disciples

Death of or withdrawal from the form, or the need for a form created in the three worlds to gain experience.

Those already responding to the influence of Leo and Virgo above (individuality and soul-consciousnesness) are becoming increasingly aware of the:

higher aspect of the energy of Pisces; it is awareness of the group, of the whole and of the universe. It is the energy of buddhi, the higher aspect of the lower psychic nature; it is the aspect of the mediator in contra-distinction to the medium. It is intuitional control instead of the intellectual overlordship of Leo and the limitations of Virgo.

[Pisces] completes the final united effort of the triangle … it has been the steady impact of Piscean force which has at long last brought humanity, the world disciple, to the very door of initiation. (EA 471, 473)

General description

These three constellations … are spoken of esoterically as “the Producers of that which knows, the Informers of that which is awakened and the Constructors of the modes of fusing wisdom. They produce a unity; they shatter that which they have produced only again to produce it in greater beauty and in wider fulness.” … This triangle is, at this time, an inverted one with the Leo energies in the closest contact with our planetary life. … These three are connected definitely and increasingly with the unfoldment of human consciousness in three main aspects (EA 469)

Summary

The influence of this triangle finds symbolic expression in the life of the self-conscious individual who reaches self-awareness in Leo; in the culturing care of Virgo and the final self-release in Pisces. (EA 473)
